I've been enjoying following Team USA and the eight Flyers players (not counting never-used Heeter and seldom-used Noebels) at the tourney. But, no, it's not the same as if the Flyers were in the playoffs.

BTW, I'm not wild about Lauridsen trying to play through the hip flexor injury tomorrow. I get it -- he's a competitor and the game against Belarus is important to avoid any chance at relegation -- but I don't like it from a Flyers standpoint.

I hate it from a Flyers stand point. That's always my biggest worry with things like the Worlds or Olympics, a guy getting hurt and having it affect the Flyers.

I've also been really busy at work and the weekends are crammed with soccer, softball and other adventures. Playoffs have been good, though

the Sens rebuild on-the-fly has been so impressive. goes to show how some luck drafting and some shrewd moves by the GM can turn things around. of course, having a shot at Karlsson really sped up the process.

I feel more and more confident after reading each summary in saying Erik Gustafsson puts it all together next season to be a legit top 4 d-man for the Flyers. Just hope good health stays with him. If it happens, he is the replacement for Timonen after next season and we can do well to pick up a top pairing guy this summer. When I say he can replace Timonen, I mean the present day Timonen not the 2010-and-prior top pairing Timonen.

Remember that modern day Timonen was still tied for 6th in points among all defenseman this season. I think saying Gus can replace Kimmo is a big order for almost any defenseman, especially one who is still only competing for a roster spot next preseason.

I'm very comfortable penciling Gustafsson in the lineup for next Season as a regular. But top 4 is a stretch. And it's not likely that Gustafsson will ever be able to replace Timonen. Not even the present day Timonen.
